|
|
Last week my public high school has asked if there are any books I'd like to order for the upcoming school year, which is great. They originally said I needed to get back to them by the end of February but I was just informed that they need my list by tomorrow. I was planning on heading into Seoul this weekend to look at Kyobo, What the Book, etc, but as I won't have the chance to do so (It's too long of a trip to head in after work) I am wondering if any other high school teachers out there have any recommendations? I'm welcome to any ideas, but especially books that focus on conversational activities and reading comprehension.
Thank you. |

I could mention lots of books but it really all depends on the level of your students and your own intentions (class, supplementary, reference?).
I'd get some leveled readers - Oxford Bookworms. Low levels!!!
Also, any books, folktales etc about Korea. Kids need this cultural context to support their learning (we learn to read and create meaning (which is acquiring language) by and through the context which scaffolds the old to the new). Visit Korea is a great book with lots of info. See examples and where to by HERE. Also get the Tasks to Help Teach the H.S. textbook there which will help your H.S. teaching.
Get your students doing SSR - self sustained reading. This will benefit them immensely even if you have to use classroom time to do it . DEAR - Drop Everything and READ. Create rewards for readers too.
I have spent hours selecting books for EFL Teachers and you can find my choices at our EFL Bookstore http://eflclassroom.com/eflbooks.html
Cheers,
DD
