I may be opening a can of worms here, but I find that the usual trip to the immigration office has improved in a few ways.
For one, there are now several English-speaking staff who handle your paperwork. The young ladies at the Jungro office are generally very friendly and in pretty good spirits, considering the job they're doing. It didn't used to be that way.
Second, the online reservation system is quite nice.
These things weren't around before a few years ago.
There are so many immigrant workers here for visas now (especially Chinese) that lines are terribly long, but at least we can pre-plan and bypass the issue. |

I seconded that. At least for the sejongro branch.
Even without booking online, I was in and out within an hour. My advice (if you haven't booked online) is to get there as early as possible, and look for the guy handing out unused number tickets. The staff were very nice. |

Agreed. It's incredible. Five years ago I'd wait all day--come early, hope to get seen before lunch break...sucked. I went last week & was in and out in less than 20 minutes, thanks to a reservation and the separation of Chinese applicants from all other nationalities. |

It's always a pleasure to go to the Suwon office. Never a wait or problem. But, I find it annoying that there always seems to be at least one foreigner there running around like a chicken w/out it's head and getting loud w/ the officers. They often talk to themselves as well. I suppose they feel it's immigrations fault, when in fact, it's their own. |

Well, I had to wait. I went out to get something to eat and came back, and still had to wait 30 minutes. There was a group of Chinese ladies who seemed to be getting everything done together. Without that wait, it probably would have cut the total time in half. |

Never had any problems at the Mokdong office either.
The last couple of times I have been there, I've used the online reservation system and been in and out very quickly, 10 - 20 minutes at most. |

I first went to the Korean Immigration office in 1993. They weren't very nice. Today, they're far better. |

Only thing Idon't like about it is all the 3d workers there breathing there TB ridden breath on me.
Other than that Suwon immigration is very professional and polite. |

Just go to the Immi website http://www.immigration.go.kr/indeximmeng.html and look on the top, left of the page. |

I've had no problem with the mokdong office over the past few years. the online appointment system is the best thing to come about here. I've used it several times and my in and out time including the wait for my arc/passport has been under 30 minutes each time.
if i had taken a number and waited, i'd still be there now |
