What are your favourite areas of Seoul to walk around, take photos, have coffee, etc?
I have been here around 6 months now and usually just go to the same places - Myeungdong, Insadong, Jongno, Itaewon and Hongdae.

I'm particularly interested in cool areas/things to take photographs of.

Samcheong-dong has some pretty cool galleries, coffee shops, museums and traditional Korean houses (hanok). It's between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung. Anguk Station (Line 3) exit 2 will get you there. Try and find the owl museum, or the chicken art museum. Very unique haha!

yeah i like that street with all of the restaurants on it right next to Gyeongbokgung, and then on up the hill on your way back down to Anguk station with all of the coffee shops and little jewellery stores. Squint hard enough and you could almost pretend your in Europe somewhere.

Konkuk is a entertainment district with not many foreigners...fun area and it's seperated into two areas for fun(one near Konkuk station and one next to Guui station).....Not much for clubs however...great for dates or hanging out with friends

Club ghetto is decent if your looking to dance however...consistently uncrowded, but far from being dead. If your into Hip hop and wanna break dance or have room to dance, this place is great.

Inwangsan is a good way to spend an afternoon. It's a small mountain festooned with little shrines, and there's a prison up there too. Big German shepherds and guys with guns. The mountain itself is all rock.

Too bad that apartment complex is going up right under it.

The area behind Doksung Palace (next to City Hall) is pretty cool. Take the little alley that has the Dunkin' Doughnuts on the corner and walk down there. It opens up to quite a lot of old govermental buildings, art musuem, etc. Laid out in a way that's more open than most city blocks in Seoul.

Also, I'd recommend walking through any of the larger (or even smaller) university campuses in Seoul. Yonsei, Ehwa, Seoul Women's, Seoul National University of Technology, all make for interesting walks.

Palgakjeong in Bugaksan and Pyeongchangdong are not very touristy since it's quite difficult to go there. There is a bus from Bomun station that goes up to Sky Villa in Bugaksan. From there you can take a walk (there's a pedestrian pathway) to Palgakjeong. The view is really nice specially in spring and autumn.

Pyeongchangdong is the village between Bukhansan and Bugaksan. Viewable from Palgakjeong. Lots of rich Koreans live there in real houses.

Basically you'll find something interesting no matter where you start from.

Not much to add in terms of places, except I always liked the area around Sinchon station, but this is an awesome idea for a thread. So many times when I lived in Korea before that I would go to Seoul and hang out in the same old places. I'm headed back in two weeks and I will surely reference this thread for some ideas on new places to wander around.

I know a place, but I can't remember the area. Maybe someone will know what I'm talking about. There's a mix of apartment buildings, some of which are Hyundai Apts, about 20 stories tall and villas about 5 stories tall. There are many coffee shops and hofs as well mom and pop stores and small, cheap restaurants. There are several vendors on the sidewalks as well as tent-like entrances to many of the gorcery stores. There's a park with a few benches that are sheltered by a wooden structure with vines. There are also a couple exercise machines, a chin-up bar and a dirt basketball court . Anyone know this place?

I am found of Hyewha. There are some nice cafes, bars and restaurants there. If you want a cool bar there, Sam Cooks is great. The owner has thousands of vinyl records and will spin pretty much what you request. Children's Grand Park is worth a walk threw. It's free, and there is a zoo there. If you want to go on rides, you do need to pay of course.
