9. VACATION & HOLIDAYS
Teachers will observe vacations and holidays as scheduled by the School Schedule which is detailed in the yearly calendar provided with this contract. The teacher will be given 10 days of vacation per year (in addition to all Korean national holidays, including schools public holiday and Saturdays and Sundays). The vacation will be normally 5 days for summer and 5 days for winter. It should be on different from the other native teachers vacation time. The teacher must confirm these vacation days with the Academic Supervisor prior to taking them.
This is as it is written in my wife's contract. Now the question is:
We have not taken or been told about our holidays, and we would like to know your opinion before we take it up with the school.... Please look at the WORDING!!
Last year we had Chuseok holiday with one extra day. This year we had new years day, plus one extra day. Does that mean we had our 10 days of vacation, or do we still need to take it? Does the two extra days we got from the school, include our 10 days?
Please look at the wording and explain to us.......This might sound stupid, but so many people "play" with the words. They will make and bend the words to always make them win....
I really hope that there will be some genuine help here, and not some lame-assssssssss comments.... |

It's sound like your vacation includes school's holiday and Sat and Sunday.
If you been off on Sats and Sundays, you've been taking way way too much vacation time. |

The extra days you got for Chuseok and New Year are counted in your 10 vacation days. You might want to confrim with them what other days the hagwon is closed. Those also count as you holidays if they are not national holidays or weekend days.
I wouldn't pay much heed to the 5 days in summer/winter deal. Ask them if they are going to be closed in the summer. Usually hagwons will close for a few days at this time. They may or may not know at this point if they'll be closed then.
There's a good chance you won't be able to take all of your vacation, but it depends on the school. If you don't take all of your vacation days, you should get compensated for them. |

1. "School Schedule"-Is the school schedule different from the National holidays-( Do the kids go to school during National Holidays)?
Also means you mihgt only get that weekend off.
2."It should be different from the other native teachers time"- WTH???. This is basically saying that someone is gonna have to be at the school during vacation ( but they havn't decided whom).
OP- If they had the right inentions, then there wouldn't they wouldn't feel the need to have all the extra wording.
It would just say "10 days of vacation |

| Looking at the last line.... teacher must confirm these vacation days with the Academic Supervisor prior to taking them. This seems to say that they expect you to go to them and tell them you are taking a holiday, and they will approve it. They might approve it, whereas if you don't take the initiative they might not care that you lose the days. |
