I've got 1 full day in Taipei.
My friend mentioned seeing an ad in the airport for a 1 day tour. Has anyone done something like that or have more info on it?
Or, from those who went to Taipei, what are the "don't miss" attractions?
Feel free giving hotel and restaurant advice, too. Lower-middle range prices are best. |

Taipei is my favorite city. There's tons to do. The only thing I can't help you out with is a hotel but look here: http://tealit.com/.
Must sees:
Snake Alley - A huge night market known for snake heart, liver, etc. It's the most famous night market in Taiwan.
Chiang Kai Shek Memorial - Close to MRT line (subway), very beautiful buidlings. Nice for pics.
Taipei 101 Building - Tallest or almost the tallest building in the world.
Tamshui - The last MRT line north. A small city situated on the ocean. Great view, sunset, sunrise, cheap food. This is also a night market.
Shida - University area (also right on the MRT line) and foreigner area. Lots of bars, pubs, restaurants. Also considered a small night market.
Jade market - Near Shida, a huge market selling all sorts of jade products and next to it on the weekends is the flower market.
Food you should try:
stinky tofu, oyster omelets, bubble tea, fried dumplings (all can be found at the night markets).
Take a taxi cause they are cheap. Airport to Taipei is around 40,000.
Have fun. |

You should check out the Sun yet sen memorial as well. It`s on the blue line near the Chiang Kai-shek one. Maybe earlier in the day you can do the National Palace Museum and then leave the inner city stuff for the afternoon. Good shopping and eating to be found in Taipei. Eating can be dirt cheap if you want it from noodle restaurants or stands.
The most famous night markets only open on fridays and the weekend. Not sure if you can check them out. |

Not so, you just need to hold your nose when you are eating it. |

Dude, if you are in Taiwan you have to eat stinky tofu even if it tastes like ass (which it doesn't). That'd be like coming to Korea and not trying Kimchi. Honestly! |

Thanks for the recommendations. The day in Taipei was good, I got wasted at Jr. Cafe on Shida St. next to the park. Also found KGB (Kiwi Gourmet Burgers), they have the best burger I've had in Asia. |

"bee lu" I believe or beatle-nut which is an intoxicating native plant men chew. They are enticed by those pretty girls in the well lit booths who sell the stuff on commission. |

I had a stopover in Taipei and extended it to 2 nights in order to see the city.
EVA airlines is based out of Taiwan, so if you want to see Taipei or Taiwan while going to another country, see if you can arrange a stopover with them. |
