I am awaiting my visa number so I can schedule an interview at the Seattle consulate...and I was wondering...
What are the odds of a visa being denied? I mean I have a squeaky clean record, and all my documents....can they deny it just cuz they didnt like you in the interview?
Also, after the interview, how long does it typically take to get you the visa stamped and back to you? |

I haven't heard of anyone being denied a visa because of the interview. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Really, it is just a formality. I think it was implemented partly because the USA requires Koreans to have an interview for a simple tourist visa.
If you received your visa issuance number, you should be fine.
Each embassy is different as far as giving the passport back. It shouldn't be more than a week. Best to call the specific embassy to find out the timeline. |

That said, I suppose it is possible that if you're a real freak, the consulate could say something. By the way some people act, it COULD happen. Would imagine it'd have to be pretty bad though. Normal people would have no problem, like the previous guy said. |

Got my inssuance number, submitted my documents to the embassy, paid the fee, made the appointment for the interview, went to the interview, receptionist told me she would call me when my passport is ready to be collected... Five days later a courier arrives at my door with my passport and no visa.
They wont tell me why they denied it, nor will they tell me if I can apply again.

Nope. Only ever had an F-1 visa, and that was a long time ago.. Here now on visa exemption (and no, I'm not working). |

That's downright dirty pool. It might be worth a try again, and see if you can do a visa run to Japan. F1, what visa is that? I know F3 is dependant of an E2 visa, that is what my son has.
I have had good dealings with the Jongno immigration office. They don't seem as uptight as the other offices. So if you are in Seoul, try to get something North of the River, as that is their jurisdiction. A teacher went down today and extended her contract. She didn't need a new Criminal check or medical check as other immigration offices have required. She did have to wait threw 275 people before her. She got there at 10 am. |

Er.. must have been F-3 then. Old passport, I can't remember anymore.
When I went back to the embassy to ask why, the receptionist beetch tried to convince me that its harder for her to get a visa for NZ
It was the embassy in Wellington that denied me, not the immi office in korea anyway. |

I understand that it was the embassy in another country that denied you, what I was trying to say was, if you secure a position and get your visa issuance number through the Jogno branch, someone there might be able to answer for you if you could go to Japan on the visa run. Explain that you are on an F visa. (could be F1, which would be married to E2, and F3 would be child of E2.) It is worth a try, no? There is a shortage of teachers now, and I am sure some schools would pay for the visa run and expenses. I know that my schoold does. |

Yeah it was F3. I was a child at the time.
Unless the rules have changed since I checked last, I can't just do a visa run since I haven't had an E-2 before? |

Yes, you can do a visa run. However, you will need to have your degree verified by KCUE. Then, you can do the visa run! |

I'd really like to know what kind of instructions and guidelines immigration gives to the consulates concerning the interviews. There must be some internal documents and they must say something other than "use your own discretion." Do the interviewers make recommendations to immigration following the interview? They couldn't deny you themselves could they? |
