I want to renew with EPIK and relocate to Busan, a different POE. I've heard you can negotiate certain things when you re-sign, and that there are added benefits. Does this only apply when re-signing with the same school or POE? I'm pretty sure I will not get the monetary allowance since the contract specifies that it has to be within the same POE, but am I really back at square 1?

Also, my current contract isn't up until September 1st, and the EPIK orientation (which I've heard second years HAVE to attend) is in late August. So there's an overlap, and I also REALLY need to go home to the states for a visit before my next contract. One needs about two weeks at the least for this. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How would you deal with this? Would it be okay to explain the situation to my school and ask them give me the extra time off and plan camps accordingly? Should I write to my local POE?

I am also taking the housing allowance and moving in with my boyfriend in Haeundae. The wording on the new contract is a little confusing because it used to say something like, "furnished housing provided, OR housing allowance of ??? provided", and now it says something like, "if housing not available, allowance will be provided". Maybe I am just reading too far into this though...

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, if you switch from the Gyeongsangnam-do POE to the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (BMOE) you will start again at 'square one'.

I don't know to which "monitary allowance' you are referring.

If you renew with the same POE, you don't have to attend orientation (at least in Gyeongsangnam-do). If you switch POEs (or switch to BMOE) it's likely you will have to attend another orientation... HINT - this is why you want to be 'late' arriving in K-land for your new job. Also, being late will ensure your contract expires before your period of sojourn next year... thus eliminating the need for an extension in order to finnish your contract.

Unless you can negotiate unpaid leave with your principal, your only option is to use your remaining holidays at the end of August. If you have seven days left, you could fly home on Aug. 21st.

How do you know what the BMOE contract will say in future? Do you already have a BMOE contract for next September? Shocked I'm confused by your statement.
