bought an r4 chip with a 4gb micro sd card on saturday. the guy put on a load of games but i wanted to put some different ones on there. deleted the ones from the sd card that i didnt want but when i try to drag new ones over, it says that there's no more room on the disk. when i check the f drive, it says there's no space. but then when i open it up, highlight all the folders and see what size they are total, it says about 1.8gb.....any ideas???? cheers!

Please correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know, R4 cards can only support 2gb cards.

the games worked fine, i was playing it yesterday but just wanted to get rid of some of the crap that the guy had put on there. so it still works as of now, but just wont let me add any more games because it says its full when as far as i can see, it isnt.

oh and i got a 4gb card because i read on other threads that there's an r4 SDHC chip which can handle 4gb sd cards

That maybe so, but did he sell you the new R4 or did he sell you the old one.. if he sold you the old one, 2gb is all you are gonna see.

well it says sdhc on the chip. and surely if it didnt support the chip, it just wouldnt work at all. like i said, the games work. just that it wont let me add more games even when ive deleted them. i didnt empty the trash.....but ive just tried plugging it into my computer at school and it still says its almost full even when i deleted games from it!! surely its not a problem with the r4 chip then, but the micro sd card? is there something you think i need to do there??

Is your card adapter (the thing that lets you connect the minisd to a card reader) have the write protect turned on?

Try this:

Back up the contents of your memory chip by dumping all the files in a folder on your computer. Then format the 4GB chip.. completely wipe it clean. Download the newest kernel here: http://www.ndslr4.com/index-en.htm and then put whatever games you want on it.

there's nothing on it at all. just a slot to put the sdhc card into and then the usb connector. i just dont get this......it reads the card ok, and it will let me delete the files. when i open up the card on the computer, it shows me the games that are there and the ones i deleted are gone. but the memory is still being taken up.........the adaptor works because it reads the sd card. there's nothing on it for me to turn off write protection......any other ideas?? this is starting to get really annoying

are you deleting the games or the save files? A way you can tell is that the games usually end in .nds. On my card ( i don't have an R4, mine is M3 real) the save files are listed with the .sav extension. The save files are really small, so deleting them won't free up much space. You need to delete the files that end with .nds if you want to free up space.

ok, formatted it and downloaded the new kernel as suggested. it now works and i can add games. but i noticed that the latest english kernel seems to make the screen quite a bit darker than the korean stuff the guy had put onto the card for me......any particular reason why this would be??

It is too late now but Did you empty the trash, often if you simply hit delete the file is gone, but the space is still allocated till you either empty the trash or try to write over it
