|
|
| I've seen the rate go anywhere from 15000 won per hr to 10000 per hr. I would assume it depends on your skill but what can I expect as a first time teacher? BTW, do they want conversational skills? I know Korea is big on grammar. |

10,000 I hope you meant 100,000.
Personally I never charge more than 50,000 for one, 30,000 each for two and 25,000 for three or more. But I normally tutor kids |

Only inbred mutants with two teeth and one eye, or people on F-class visas, tutor in Korea, 'cause it's illegal. For them, though, the rate supposedly is between 30 000 and 60 000 for one on one classes. If you get a squad of students to pay 20 each though it can get lucrative. Or so I hear.
(cue the huffy clubfoot unclebuggerers who claim to never get out of bed for less than 100 000 an hour)
Remember, tutoring is illegal! As it should be! |

Some people won't get the sarcasm.
I can legally tutor, with an F2, but I have never said no to a private, including the 4 years I didn't have an F2. I think it's foolish to turn down good money, but that's just me. Koreans don't obey laws, especially silly ones, so why would I?
I kid= 50,000
2 kids= 60-70
3 kids= 70-80
4 or more= 100
It also depends on location, if it is close to home. Travel time costs extra. If a kid is in my neighborhood, I'll teach 1:1 for 40,000.
Also, if more than once a week, they might get a deal.
Don't be a chump and take 30,000. The people will consider you a sucker, no matter how poor or friendly they appear to be. Also, always insist on payment before or same day as private lesson. Never take post dated payments.
Now, happy private teaching! |

i can tutor legally on my E2 visa. I just asked my school for some private lessons and now i do a few extra hours a week, with 4 or 5 students at 40000 an hour.
I guess the school charges the students 40000 or so an hour for this extra study. So they get a load of extra money as do i, and im not likely to be arrested and deported - every ones a winner! |

I live in Daejeon and charge 40 an hour one on one... 60 for 2. Sometimes I give a discount IF I really like the kid and/or the mother.
Most people I know are charging 50K now though. |

tzechuk, you're ethnically Chinese, right?
How did you end up with privates? I can't imagine strangers approaching an Asian looking person and asking for English lessons. |

Friends introducing them to me and recruiters, mostly.
I don't actually do that many - I don't have the time or the inclination.
ETA: I had a student that I taught for about a year whose father was a random taxi driver that took me from my home to the railway station. When he found out I wasn't Korean and was from the UK he asked me to teach his daughter. She is now at uni in the UK. Amazing that taxi drivers can afford to send their kids abroad!! |

It's true, 30 is very low, but if it's local and I like the family and they're poor, I would do it, sometimes. Except that it's illegal for me, so I can't. |

Never less than 50k per hour.
If any parent balks at that then just let them know that if their little Jenny has a friend who wants taught too, then it's just 60k an hour for the both of them. Most parents go for it. |
