Ok, so I know that Daejeon isn't the bright centre of the universe, but I'll be arriving at the back end of February and I was wondering about the live music, nightlife, and sport situation.

Daejeon Citizen F.C will be among the first things I investigate upon my arrival, as I am sure to miss seeing live football on a weekend. Any other local teams worth looking at? Being a current regular at Farsley Celtic, the thought of lower division Korean football is really quite appealing!

As far as live music goes, I'm at a complete loss. Anyone able to offer me some hints? Will I have to go to Seoul at to see bands of the indie / rock persuasion?

Cheers!

I go to every game, home and away so I'll be able to help you out. I'm the only foreigner that does unfortunately! Season tickets are dirt cheap (50,000won) and it's a good way to spend the weekend. A huge plus is that you can drink in the stadium, so I'm usually legless by the time I come out! There is a lower league Daejeon team debuting this year called Daejeon Utd. They will be playing in the K-3 (3rd tier) league. I don't know much more than that though.

Anyway, the season starts in early March so let me know and we can meet up for some beers before the game.

I love it when a plan comes together.

I was thinking about getting a season ticket myself, and at 50,000 Won I think it'd be almost rude not to!

No doubt I'll be in touch via the medium of private message when I've amassed enough posts to do so, but you're very much on for a prematch pint when I get to Daejeon!

Cheers!

I'm totally bringing this thread back from the dead for two reasons:

1) I was wondering if anyone has any more ideas about things to do in Daejeon..

and..

2) I only need one more post now before I can PM folk and arrange the aforementioned pre-match beers!

Cheers!

I don't live there, but I've heard it's a great alternative to Seoul. I think you'll really like it. Half of the city is new and well planned, so if you're lucky enough to live and work in the good half, I think it'll be good.

If you like the sports you will probably like a beer at Santa Claus bar. Gung dong, run by Mr Ho.

They often have live games on the box and drink discounts. They also have hamburgers and other western food. Friday night is a busy night there.

The 'bar' feels more like a den.

In the spring/ summer Dunsan dong has a few open area places to go.

The only live music I know is 'the white boys', they sometimes play at 'brickhouse'.

I live in Daejeon and I like living in Daejeon.

I am leaving Korea soon, though.

I lived in Daejeon for 8 months but never saw much of a foreigner scene there. I live in Seoul now, but I'd move back to Daejeon in a heartbeat if I didn't have to get medical treatment here. It was cleaner and the people were generally more personable to foreigners in my experience.
