Yes, I'm splitting an infinitive and no one can stop me. BWAHAHAHA
I was shocked to see that Pandora was blocked, so I had my mom set up an SSH Tunnel so that I can get an American IP address. For those of you who don't know, SSH is a kind of protocol that allows you to log in to another computer via an internet connection. Once logged in, you can do various sorts of things; for my purposes, I'm using it to get the same IP address as my mother's home network.
It's a very easy process--she's not very computer literate, so I guided her through the steps--and now not only can I use Pandora, but I can watch t.v. on NBC.com, Hulu, and various other America-only websites. Brits can use this to get the sacred BBC iPlayer.
There are step-by-step guides online:
For Mac: http://dresstosurvive.wordpress.com/2007/04/01/anonymizing-proxy-for-os-x/
For PC: http://slashstar.com/blogs/dave/archive/2006/11/27/SSH-Tunneling-_2800_on-Windows_2900_-with-OpenSSH-and-Putty-through-an-HTTP-proxy-.aspx
I hope other people on this board find this useful. |
