hi everyone
Pardon my ignorance on this issue... I'm maybe not as well traveled as many of you.
I'm in the process of renewing my contract/E-2 and my passport wil actually expire in November of this year.
I've never really been in this position before... (contract renewal/passport expiration)
Here are my questions:
1. my almost expired passport is totally full and there is no place for a new visa unless the rip an older one off and replace it with the new one. PROBLEM?
2. the visa or renewal that they give me in this passport will be valid until next year but then the passport will expire before...
3. How do I go about applying for a brand new passport? I checked the embassy website but for some reason, my computer freezes when I try to follow their links.
I don't need a CRC or medical check... I just need the renewal visa, so it shouldn't be a lengthy process, I hope... but then again, I've NEVER renewed a contract here before.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I feel like such a newbie at the moment! |

If they're paying attention, they will not give you a visa past the expiration date of your passport. |

just go TO the embassy; i think you can apply in person there. i know for a fact that you can pick up a new passport while you're there, in the event you must replace yours. |

You need to go to the embassy and get a new passport. They won't issue a visa past your passport's expiration, and it's illegal to put a sticker or stamp on top of another sticker or stamp in a passport.
It's relatively stress-free to get a new passport, so just go to the embassy and apply for one. |

When you get the new passport, or shortly thereafter, also apply for extra pages. Those are added at no cost. |

Just for the record, I've gotten a year-long E2 in a passport due to expire. Twice.
No more space is your real issue. You need a new passport. |

Yes, pages can be added for free. I think it took me like 30 minutes the last time I did it. However, if you are going all the way to the embassy, you might as well apply for a new passport! |

You might want to take a gander at what I posted again. I suggested getting extra pages added to the new passport at the same time it's issued. |

However, it might take him some time to get the new passport. I haven't got any idea how long it takes. He has both options at his disposal. Will they put additional pages in an otherwise empty passport? |

look, it depends on when your new visa will start.
If it is before your passport expires, you could get extra pages.
Then, once you get the new passport, you should get the visa stamp in your new passport.
I found the American embassy in Tokyo helpful when it came to the extra pages. I just mailed it and got it back in 2 weeks.
Yes, it would be convenient just to get the new passport and then the visa. |

It doesn't take that long at all.
Yes, they will. In my experience as a US passport agent while in the US Navy, there was no problem whatsoever in processing such requests. |
