Can anyone tell me what it's like living in Junggye? Near Nowon?

I'm in Haggye, but I work in Junggye. It's not a bad little spot. It's far enough outside the city center that the traffic isn't too heavy... yet only a 30-minute cab ride into any of the cool spots. There's not a lot in the way of nightlife but there are several department stores (including a Carrefour for Western stuff), and a half-decent movie theatre or two in the same general area. There's an Outback Steakhouse close to all the hagwons also.

I've been in Nowon for over two years now and like it quite a bit.

Jungye is not a bad place to live at all. When I first came to Korea I worked at SLP in Oonaeng Sagori (there are soooooo many stories about this place here on Dave's....Check it out!!).

A cab ride from Hongdae after a hard night partying will set you back W18000 or so. Itaewon is 45 minutes by subway. COEX is 40 min. or so. Hongdae, an hour or thereabouts.

You'll be completely surrounded by mountains, which are fabulous for hiking/climbing.

Most folks are middle/upper middle class, which means most of the apartments are at least given a new coat of paint every few years. Nothing slummy, but not as glam as Mok-dong, Bundang, Gangnam, or Ilsan. One member of the group S.E.S is from Jungye, and some famous comedian whose name escapes me.

At night you might be shell-shocked by a cacophony of crazy horns which belong to hundreds of bikers who cruise the streets nightly (exception: winter).

As mentioned, you'll have access to Carrefour, Lotte Mart (and dept. store--great bakery there), and Costco is just a few stops away at Sangbong.

As for nightlife, the main expat hangout (which has been receiving quite a bit of attetion in the Club Runner section of the Korea Herald) is "Dragon Bar". It's next to Nowon station, just across the street from Lotte Dept. store.

PM me if you have any other questions (health clubs/doctors/restaurants/etc.)

Cheers
