I called 1345 and asked "Is it possible to extend a 3 month visa exemption permit?"

First she said something about 30 days for extending an E-2 visa. Grrrr.

However, whenever I said "visa exemption", she heard "visa extension".

*beep* sake, if you're going to run a phone number for something important for foreigners like that, have operators who know their own fucking terminology.

Perhaps it was her fault, she couldn't understand you because she can't understand English.

To make things worse, you may even have an English accent and we all know they don't know anything about their own language now don't we?!! Laughing

Well, it's common knowledge that American English is the preferred English for international parlance. Only a complete muppet and total numpty would argue otherwise. I suggest the OP get an American to phone for him.

Immi: Hello.

American: Like yah, uh-huh, Jeez, you ass, I'm open 24/7.

Immi: You'd likah the exemptionee then?

American: Yah, I knew I'd get da job done homie, stupid brits can't speak nothin.

Immi and American live happily ever after, with the full knowledge they are competent in the English language. Rolling Eyes Laughing Cool

Ha ha... I think Teelo is a Kiwi.

I worked with a Kiwi. We had a conversation like this -

"... so I saw this really beautiful gull..."
"What?... gull?"
"Yeah... she was really beautiful."
"Oh... you mean GIRL..."
"Yeah... gull."

Well, when you do decide to try poutine (Quebec's saving grace), don't try it from KFC.. get it done by a place that uses real Quebec cheese curds.

They call it "poutine", but if I was Quebecois and tried it, I would likely chalk up one more reason for separation.

I actually lived in Quebec and ate poutine everyday while I was there and it ain't really a fancy treat boys. In fact New York Fries' poutine is pretty spot on, save for less soggy fries.
