Does anyone from the states have a checking account with WAMU? I called them up to see if I can use my debit card (Mastercard) in Korea and they said that I could, but only if the ATM has a Mastercard logo/picture. Can anyone confirm that they've used their card or that they've seen ATMs with that logo? Thanks!

Bonus question: If you've wired money over to your U.S. account, what were the fees?

I have a WaMu credit card and it works here. WaMu is also switching over to Chase and that's who I have my checking/savings account with. It also works here just fine. Smile

I've never had a problem using mine at ATMs or buying stuff at Emart. You should have no troubles.

Same here. Using it as a debit/cash card is no problem.

However, to withdraw cash you may need to search around for the right kind of ATM. Most of the convenience store ATMs will work, as will Standard Charter ATMs.

Woori, Shinhan, Hana, KB and the like usually won't accept my card for cash withdrawls.

Inbound Wire fees are $10.00; waived if you have a Platinum Checking Account.

I had no problem getting cash from an ATM at KEB bank in Seoul with my Washington Mutual debit card when I first arrived here. I had trouble using it at Emart, only because they had to swipe it a bunch of times before it worked. But it did work. I had no other way to pay back then, so I had to have them just continue to keep swiping it.
