Quote:
NEW YORK -- A New York Post cartoon Wednesday drew fire from civil rights activist Al Sharpton, who says the image invokes a history of racism to suggest that an ape wrote President Obama's economic stimulus package...

The cartoonist, Sean Delonas...called the controversy "absolutely friggin' ridiculous."

"Do you really think I'm saying Obama should be shot? I didn't see that in the cartoon," Delonas said...

And Col Allan, the Post's editor-in-chief, said the cartoon "is a clear parody of a current news event."

"It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist," Allan said in a written statement.

First of all, I don't believe anyone actually believe Obama sat down and penned the bill himself so what are they upset at? The language used hints that the police didn't actually go out to shoot the monkey. Feels more as if it happened due to unforseen event, and the result is the writer of the bill being inadvertantly killed, obviously clear if you take into account the recent event regarding that chimp that ran amok.

Sharpton and anyone else thinking this cartoon has racist "undertones" is a tool and I would have preferred that you, rather than that poor chimp, had gotten shot. Wink

That's ridiculous. Obama didn't write the stimulus so all the faux outrage is mis-placed in the first instance.

I feel sorry for Obama. Now he's gotta pull these brainless morons aside and chastise them for pulling out the race card so soon, over something that is not in fact racist, but just a joke about Pelosi and the Dems being the "500 monkeys at the keyboard typing "It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times..." Blurst?!?! Worthless monkeys!

I'm quite ashamed to be American being that it seems some people with very low levels of intelligence have a hard time understanding such elemental images, allusions, and metaphors.

Just out of curiosity, because I barely remember that image with the monkeys at the typewriters, when was that put out?

It was used in an ad back in the 90s I think, but it's an old fictional anecdote, used to illustrate that randomness will eventually produce a semblance of coherence.

And apparently it is true. I read somewhere(Michael Schermer, I believe) that some scientists programmed a computer to randomly generate letters and punctuation, and that in less time than you would expect, the computer had produced something resembling the words "to be or not to be".

You beat me to the punch(line) again, Gopher.

Yes, it's ridiculous and more than a little pathetic. There's an old saying, "If you're always looking for dirt, you're sure to find it." Sadly, much of the Black establishment hasn't taken that adage to heart. They're still fighting the civil rights movement as if it were yesterday because it serves their narrow-minded agenda.

I have a couple of Black friends who are well-educated Africans who think many so-called African American Blacks are just plain silly.

And of course, as other posters have pointed out here, some in the crowd of protesters are just flat out ignorant.

Gee, Reverend Al the Ambulance Chaser, where's your sense of outrage over the relentless bloodbath among young Black men, especially in places like Harlem where you come from?

No coincidence that the state senators are being opportunistic because they have no real ideas. If Obama's staff isn't careful, they could end up giving credence to this bellyaching baloney.

This latest "outrage" reminds me of a teacher who was almost suspended for using the word "niggardly" in an SAT verbal prep class a few years back. The dumbshits who pressed for his ouster didn't even know what the word meant.

Yes, as stated in the post after yours--the quote is from a Simpson's episode. I think a Halloween Special. IIRC, Mr. Burns says to Smithers I think, "This is a thousand monkeys working at a thousand typewriters. Soon, they'll have written the greatest novel known to mankind," he opens the door, where you see the smoking moneys feverishly typing. Burns picks up one of the typed sheets, then reads "It was the best of times, it was the Blurst of times?! You stupid monkey!" My fav Simps quote of alltime.

COLUMBIA, S.C. The highest-ranking black congressman said Thursday that opposition to the federal stimulus package by southern GOP governors is "a slap in the face of African-Americans."

For decades, high-school students have taken community-college courses to dress up their resumes and prepare for college.

Now, competitive middle-schoolers in Florida are flocking to sign up for high-school classes.

For parents and students, it's a great chance to get ahead. And school districts have something else to brag about: seventh- and eighth-graders completing courses such as Algebra II Honors and biology that had been reserved primarily for ninth- and 10th-graders.

But the nation's foremost scholars in middle-school education are worried the fast-growing trend is leaving minority children behind. They also question whether the practice is legal because, nationwide, it has tended to result in students being segregated by race.
