Why is it such a hassle? Why are they so reluctant to give you a freakin bag for your things? Do they really expect me to walk around for a half hour with two burgers and a carton of milk in my arms? They give you your change and then stand there and look at you like their job is finished. Put the stuff in the bag! Is it that bug of a deal to them?

| I think you're supposed to ask before you pay. At the GS25 near me, they finally told me they charge 20 won for plastic bags - I paid, they gave me one. Maybe they had been giving them to me for free at other places when I asked just so they didn't have to deal with the hassle? |

It's a hassle for about a dozen reasons, the two bigs one being - One, the people who work there get paid garbage so they don't care. Two, the government has been all over retailers to reduce their usage of plastic bags, so much so that the big three no longer use plastic , having switched to paper and pushing people to use cloth bags.
My personal pet peeve is the mart by my school ALWAYS gives me a bag, when i buy two things. I tell them EVERY SINGLE TIME that I don't want it, but it's too late. Same thing for Subway, or GS Mart, etc. I can't seem to get them to just let me take my stuff and go! |

Because they have to charge for them now. It's a hassle after you've already paid and they're ready to move on to the next person that they have to suddenly turn around and process another 20-50won transaction because you didn't ask for one when you were supposed to.
You don't want it to be a hassle? learn2checkout
before you give them the money/card point at the plastic bag and say "hana ju-sae-yo"
Can't say as I've ever had a problem. If they see me with my bag, they don't ask. If they don't see a bag, they ask. If I just haven't gotten my bag out, I just take it out and they stop talking. If I actually need one, I just say "Nay" and it's done. It's really a very simple process. |

Yep. Most places in my town charge for carrier bags too - and rightly so.
If they don't ask, hit them with a 봉투 좀 주세요 "bongtu chom juseyo" (give me a bag please) when they start scanning your items and you're set. The spiel they give you when you approach the till probably usually includes the question "would you like a bag?" but it's easily missed when delivered at rapid-fire rate. |

I don't know about where you live, but in Bundang at least, they all offer the option of a plastic GARBAGE bag, which is great. Carry your stuff home and then you can use it to throw it all away when you're done. |

| I know you have to pay for the bags at E-Mart, but Im talking about places like Family Mart and GS25. If you had to pay for the tiny black plastic bags, that's news to me. |

They're not the most robust things in the world, it's true. It's possibly a little known fact but they do still have plastic bags - the magic word is 비닐봉지 (binil bongji). Whether it's just that they have some left over or will continue to offer them is not something I can comment on, however. It is almost certain that you won't get one without specifically asking for plastic though. |

Yeah, this recent addition on the past months has been very welcome. That way I don't need to worry about taking multiple cloth bags with me and I don't have to go out again to get garbage bags |

I've only ever been offered the paper bags recently.

I've asked for 비닐 bags. I tried asking 플라스틱 bags as well.They don't seem to offer them anymore at my local E-mart. Luckily, I have a good-sized cloth bag and one of the large E-mart reusable bags so it's rarely an issue. |

Give them some sympathy man. The people there work for like $3 an hour and while you might be a decent customer, the guy who came in there 15 minutes before you, or after you might be a huge A-hole.
I remember when I was a teen and was a cashier at a grocery store. I would constantly be amazed at the behavior of some customers. |

Yea I know what they make, but the spirit of my complaint is the simple fact it should be common sense to pack 3 or more items into a bag for the customer. That's NOT asking too much. It just surprised me that I even have to ask, it's just logic. |

Ah, that's why my groceries have been splitting stupid paper bags and spilling all over the road. Thanks government! |
