|
|
Hi, a friend of mine from Bundang is trying to work out a problem with his company. He wants to get his flight booked by his hagwon for 4 months after the contract is finished. They won't let him do this, saying that it sets a dangerous precedent blah blah blah. The cost of flights is the exact same whether now or 4 months from now. I had an idea to book the flight for much sooner (say 1 month later), and then call the travel agency directly and change it to the desired time for a minimal fee.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Tried it before? Do you think it will fly or will the Hagwon somehow find out and cancell the flight. (a sneeky and malicious act I know but I wouldn't put it past them).
Thanks for your help. |

The school doesn't have any obligation to visa-sponsor him for 4 months beyond the end of his contract.
The ARC exit date is the end of their legal contractual arrangement.
Even then, I can't see how he could stay here >>> how can an ARC exit date exceed a contract finish-date by 4 months!
If he wants to hang out in Korea for 4 months he will need to leave and re-enter as a tourist.
You can't expect Koreans to follow the rules, when you don't. If both parties cheat each other, then all bets are off.
I'd say take the ticket as it was intended --- or you may end up with nothing. |

I should clarify. He's going to travel for those four months, not stick around korea.
Yea I feel like somehow he'd be cheated. |

| this is not an unusual situation. he needs to find out whether the ticket is one month, three months, six months, etc. i had the same thing happen to me a few years ago, but was able to push my flight date back on my own because the ticket could be used for a three-month time period. there's also often the option to cash in a ticket, although your friend may get hit with a service fee of 50,000-150,000 won. |

| Another option is to get the money instead of the plane ticket. A coworker of mine did that before. She got the money, went to Vietnam and Thailand, then came back to Seoul and went back home. |
