| Does anybody have any experience with these? I'm interested in taking the Indian-Pacific line from Perth to Adelaide but the website says a dress code of "Neat casual attire is required". I assume that means no shorts. Would that also exclude jeans and a hoodie? |

I've done the trip.
- Firstly 70% of the passengers will be senior citizens (who travel on government vouchers at heavily discounted prices). So the on-board "entertainment" is really skewed towards that demographic.
- In coach, there will be old 1970s videos played constantly. You have no choice, you have to watch them. It is not like you can get up and leave the train.
- The train itself is slow and most of it is desert.
- Of course you will be "neat and tidy". You will be sitting with old ladies.
- Adelaide to Perth (in coach) will be about US$150 one way - which is actually good value. But then again, it wouldn't be that much more to fly. They have the whole low-cost airline thing happening there. |

I have crossed the Nulabour 9 times by car. The only thing I like about it is the stop in Ceduna beach to camp and the stars at night.
Why someone would pay to take a train across I am not sure. There is nothing to see. |
