Damn, and we British have worked so hard for so long to keep it secret. But now the shame that is Jade Goody has been unleashed upon the world.
Unlike America though we will not vote her in as our leader. Will we? |

Likely not, but she might become a columnist for the Guardian, where she will write about how 'those hicks' in America can't locate Brazil on a map.
A tad sensitive, are we? |

No, you just vote in the guy who got duped by "that idiot Bush" into sending troops to Iraq. |

Ha,ha,ha
On The Other Hand and BJWD, you are both right. Sorry you have this impression we brits are arrogant, but it's not arrogance when you're right(joke). I have always been prepared to admit my own as well as my countries stupidity.
Who has the thickest citizens the US, UK or Canada? I dunno, if it's the UK I'd be surprised but I wouldn't deny it's possible.
A tad sensitive?
Well me skin is as thick as me head.
ps I don't think Jade knows what a 'hick' is. |

Hard to say. In a Canadian elementary school, I was told by a teacher that there is a country called Africa. And believe me, I tried to clarify, like, don't you mean a continent called Africa, or maybe you're thinking of South Africa? But no, she was quite adamant that there was a country called Africa.
And I know another Canadian guy who claims he was told by a teacher that Vancouver is the capital of BC.
Then again, another friend of mine was travelling somewhere in Canada once, and heard some loud-mouthed American woman saying that she thought Saskatchewan was an American state. I can understand not knowing exactly where(or even what) Saskatchewan is, and I know Canadians who will swear on a stack of bibles that there is a state called New England. But for an American to think that that there is an American state called Saskatchewan, well...
I'm afraid I don't have too many "dumb Brit" stories(at least one's that don't involve Neville Chamberlain), so for now we'll just have to make do with this woman on Big Brother. |

While the racism revealed on the show was rather appalling (and will hopefully force ordinary people to take a good look at their own attitudes)...I sniggered at the outrage in the Indian press. They've yet to face up to their own appalling racism. They need to take a good hard look at themselves before having a national whingefest about the Brits. |

It is true Big Bird.
A friend of mine is about the marry an Indian lady in India. While at immigration, they asked her, in English, in front of him "what? Don't you have any Indian man to marry?". I doubt that would happen in England. |

So I guess you haven't watched Big Brother. There are plenty of dumb Brits to be found on that show. Although the current celebrity one includes people from all over.
Reality shows in general expose/exploit the dumbest. American/Pop Idol, X Factor, Big Brother and the rest just show us at our worst. And please don't forget all the British boy bands, not exactly the Brains of Britain. |

An Indian can be outraged even if there is a problem of prejudice in India. Some of those outraged are untouchables. I mean aren't some of us outraged by prejudice in Korea when it happens? That includes you Junior, right? I am sure I've complained about some of the prejudice here. Of course, India does need to take a close look at itself and make some major reforms. |

Indians (and Pakistanis) living in Britain have good reason to complain about racism. Having grown up there, I've witnessed a fair amount of it, and it is quite ugly. However, if I was an untouchable, I still think I'd still fare better in Britain than in India.
Yes Indians in India can be outraged and make a fuss about the silly Miss Goody and her idiotic behaviour, but I'll still view them as extremely hypocritical until they seriously start discussing cleaning up their own house. |

Isn't their house England? I mean the Indians and Pakistanis that live and were born in England. They're considered English, right? Or is it different accross the pond? |

for once, im not antagonizing you. Im not very familiar with this whole Big Brother debacle. So were the indians protesting in India or were they British and in the UK? If they're from India then, yeah I agree, its quite ironic for them to be so appalled at some dope's comments.
If the bulk of the protests occured in UK however, I would just assume that those people are English, and the 'house' they have to clean up is not India...but England, they're country.
I was also wondering if it is different in England. Are Indian and Pak nationals or other foreigners considered British, like immigrants in the US are considered American or is there a greater divide? That's why I found your "clean up your own house" comment interesting, especially coming from you...(if most of the Indians protesting were British nationals.)
Edit: I see. I didnt read closely enough. Indians in India. Got it.
Side question though: are indian uk nationals considered british? |
