Workers at Korean Air agree to a wage freeze
The management and employees of the countrys flagship airline agreed yesterday to freeze wages and maintain current employment levels. |
Does this mean that fewer young Korean women will want to become airline stewardesses? What will happen to all those airline stewardess hogwons and community colleges? |

I think citing "for the experience" wouldn't be cliche for this situation |

I teach air travel and tourism students at a college.
Enrollment is up and it will continue to be up because many many girls dream of this job. As it is now maybe 15% of my students will actually become cabin crew after they graduate. Many will not reach their goals and it is highly competitive. Some of the remainder will work at the ticket counter or in shops. The rest will work in hotels.
They are an interesting bunch to teach. Sweet students who try hard. |

You rescued puppies from a burning orphanage in a previous life, didn't you? |

I used to work for an airline (not a hagwon) and they paid 50 000 an hour. Best and worst job I've had so far in Korea. |

I have a very talkative Russian student whose cousin is a Stewardess for Dubai Airlines (or whatever). Apparently, she earns about 800 a month and gets a per diem when in a foreign country.
The selection process was like a beauty pageant and the girls had to go on 3 different courses at their own expense before a few of them got chosen.
She thinks she is lucky and has a great job. By Russian standards it is decent money.
Go figure.
