I know there are other posts about SLP on this site, but I am having difficulty pulling them up, so I started a new topic.
I know SLP Daejeon will be hiring quite a few more teachers in the upcoming months and wanted to forewarn those whom are looking to teach there.
The school is going downhill. I came on to SLP on a recommendation from friends who taught there about 4 years ago, and even talking to the folks who have been there a few years they all would agree, it's slowly been deteriorating.
The contract is highly misleading. Your contract is to work 22.5 classes a week with each class being 80 minutes. Which is about 30 hours a week, which is fine, but then they have breaks, and the classes are so staggered that i was there well over 40 hours a week. THEN there is so much grading and reports etc that they even ask(tell) you to work on your "unpaid" breaks. This is just the tip. If it was a great school, and great supervisors I would not mind working extra hours to finish.
It's just one thing after another there. If Jennifer (the supervisor who is in charge) is there, don't even look twice at the school. She is conniving, two faced and is the root of the disgruntled employees.
I could go on and on about the issues with SLP Daejeon, but it could be a novel. There are better schools out there.
FYI: don't know if it's all SLP's but I bumped into a couple who worked at another SLP and they had the same issues different supervisors. |

Let me see ... a normal nine to five job would be forty hours a week. Thirty hours of classes and ten hours of preparation and paperwork seems all right.
I know many people will tell you that you should be working less and getting more money, but man was made to work, not to pick his nose. |

I totally agree. At home I work over 40 hours a week. BUT, i get paid for it! You take the hours that you work at SLP daejeon and the amount you get paid and you are working for less than $10 an hour. Now, I got paid that much when I was in High School.
I didn't come all the way to Korea to have a lousy job that rips you off (hours vs pay), I can do that at home and make more money for the lousy hours and at least have family and friends nearby. I didn't come all the way to Korea to be treated like I was treated and not even get paid for it! |

SLP is hiring right now so they are a little short staffed, thus the longer hours (if you want them). SLP extra hours are a lot like drugs, just say no if you don't want them.
Contract negotiations are opening right now so I'll have to get back to you on that. SLP so far has paid all my health plan payments, and pension payments. They set me up with a sweet apartment and have paid me on time for the last 7 months.
Only complaint I have with signing is the value of the won, but they have no control over that. Will answer any any questions via PM. |
