There's a jazz festival in Nakseongdae part yesterday and today (near SNU). I was excited to see that James Moody was in the line-up (headliner in fact), but it doesn't look like he's on the program anymore? http://www.sijazz.org/

Anyone go to the opening events at the festival yesterday?

THey're calling the the Seoul International Jazz festival, not the Naksongdae Jazz Festival.

I went to the show friday night. It was an outdoor show near teh Seoul Science Museum.

Side rant: (It was very koreanized jazz. The foreign musicians they brought in were quite good, but they kept covering it up with loud korean female vocalists. Just because can you scat in a jazz standard does not make you a jazz vocalist. Then again, i guess they need to cater to the crowd they had in. When in rome...)

Still, i can't complain too much. The friday night show was free! All in all, the foreign musicians were good and i'd go again next year.

I agree with Dalem. It was very Koreanized jazz. There was a lack of emotion while playing and a sense they were simply performing the notes. That's not jazz! Also, I was blown away at when 9pm came and they busted out the Korean ballads, my jaw dropped. I sensed that's what the crowd was really waiting for . Oh boy, do those ballads make the girls wet. However, it was free and as Dalem said, "when in Rome."

I didn't get there at the start, and was lucky. They just finished the korean ballads and were bringing out a foreign group as i got there.
