Hey. Im hoping someone can offer some advice as to what I should purchase. I know enough about electronics but TVs and monitors is an area that I do not. Im looking for around a 23 inch monitor to play my xbox and hook my macbook up to. I understand I will need VGA cable for my xbox and I will use the mini dvi to dvi for my macbook. I just need to figure out what monitor is a good deal. I have been looking around on gmarket. I notice that for every inch there is a significant price increase. Is an extra inch from 22 to 23 worth it? or from 23 to 24?

Here are 3 different monitors with 3 different price ranges.

Is samsung the way to go? Will I find better deals other then online?

Also, I have read that the quality of the VGA cable for the xbox makes a big difference. I should only use the actual microsoft cables and not 3rd party. Is this the ticket here?

Thanks a lot for any advice. I appreciate anything you have to offer.

I don't think I've seen a 23'' monitor.......they go from 22'' to 24''.

I'd say 24'' is the way to go. Samsung and LG are good but they aren't cheap.

For gaming you'll want a response time of 5ms or less.

The cable companies would love you to believe that a more expensive cable makes a difference. I'd doubt you'd notice the difference. Although I wouldn't buy the cheapest one either.

What is size of the middle monitor that i posted. Is the name of LG or Samsung worth the extra coin in your opinion? Thanks.

That middle one is a 23''. First one I've ever seen.

I would buy BenQ or Viewsonic before I would buy LG or Samsung.

You pay a premium in Korea for LG and Samsung because Koreans love those brands so they always sell well.

Personally I'd buy this for 375,000.

Thanks a lot for the info!

Jeff's am I missing something or is there no D-Sub (VGA) connection on this monitor? It comes with a cable so I assume there is one... Im sure this is a silly question.

eamo, do you have any links for Viewsonic or Benq monitors. The monitors that I am coming across are very close to the Samsung monitors.

Thanks again for the help. Its greatly appreciated.

You connect to the HDMI using a DVI-HDMI cable or via the VGA connector.

Co-teacher got one of these, paid a little less, but it's a beautiful monitor

Than I suggest you get the lead out on it....bet you'll enjoy it a whole lot better than one of those knock-off Kimberly ones. I'm thinking on one myself but I already have a 22'' for my com and a 40"pavv 1080p that I use w/ my xbox and ps3. If i was looking for a monitor at this moment I'd jump on that one.

So just trying to wrap my head around this here...
It says that on the back of the monitor there is a DVI input... From what I understand DVI and D-Sub (more specifically VGA) are not the same but the connector on the back looks like it is VGA...

What I want to do is connect my xbox via VGA and my macbook via DVI. So if that infact is a VGA connection, I would connect my xbox there and go mini DVI to DVI to HDMI for my macbook? I hope Im making a little sense...

sobriquet, you don't happen to remember where your coteach purchased their monitor do you?

One more silly question, why the usb in and outs on the monitor? BUS power? Thanks again for all the info!

Xbox via VGA cable to standard VGA port.

Macbook via DVI to HDMI cable to HDMI port

Just asked her and she hasn't a clue. Got it off G-market when there was a fair bit off it think it was 340k maybe 320k. She got a really good price on it.

USB ins and outs are to act as a hub.

Plug monitor into a single usb on your pc and it gives you those extra USB ports on the side.

Yeah, prices on imported hardware has risen some in the past few months. Still, 375 is a good price. Heck that's roughly what they're asking for the Korean 24" knock offs. Try doing a more intense search. You can also contact the individual stores and bargain w/ them. Gmarket has a bargaining function...give that a go. But, from what I have heard this monitor really stands out in the display room.
