My grandmother is in a Japanese care home in LA. Ever since her Alzheimers set in she's actually reverted to speaking more Japanese than Korean anyway and we all really appreciate the level of care.

It's no surprise that Korean senior centers suck. I mean, they are really bad. We Koreans just don't seem to do details well and senior centers are all about details.

That said, Koreans have been getting along just swimmingly with the Japanese in LA for a long time. Most early Korean immigrants ended up living in Japanese neighborhoods during the 50's, 60's and 70's, attending Japanese churches, shopping at Japanese stores, etc. In fact, a lot of the early American immigrants did not approve of the Korean government and, while not openly saying so, appreciated at least to some extent the way the Japanese had governed Korea during it's occupancy.

Edit:

The Little Tokyo neighborhood in LA has been in decline for a long time now. About a few years ago it had probably hit it's worth before the neighborhood began to gentrify. I think the 'Japanese' have bigger things to worry about than a Korean invasion like a swarm of hipsters moving in.
