i've got the feeling that i'm gonna be let go as soon as they can find a replacement... of course, they're not telling me this, i'm just getting that vibe... and being slightly paranoid, i suppose...

if this happens, i don't want to leave korea, but i also don't have enough savings to stay indefinitely looking for a new job...

so my question: how easy is it to cancel a current visa (i'll be leaving on good terms), find a new job in country, and do a visa run to japan (or where ever)? especially considering this current economic situation...

any recent info/stories would be appreciated... thanx in advance!

if they're looking a replacement for you behind your back and waiting to tell you that youre fired after they find a new teacher,,you're not on good terms.

be prepared for lots of shit coming your way if your paranoia is valid. things like a letter of release will prob not be given and expect lots of creative things being done with your final pay....

EDIT: the letter of release is what you need to transfer jobs here without leaving the country. you need to find new work before you finish at your old job because to transfer a visa there can be no time in between employers. there's also how long you've been working on this contract -- if its been less than 9 months then you may not even be eligible for a visa transfer

well, semi good terms... i've just been at this particular job for too long, and have stopped giving the kteachers the undue respect that they never deserved... a little immature of me, but i just go about my business without trying to hard to be pleasant with the loud, obnoxious 10 korean women who share the teachers' room with me...

problem is, they've all talked to my boss asking what was wrong with me... i couldn't really tell i'm sick of working in the middle of a sewing circle, that there lack of respect towards me as a fellow teacher and their lack of inclusiveness even now well into my second year have all finally taken their toll... i've turned into a grump...

however, i'm nice enough with my boss, and he still likes me... tho, group think rules supreme here, so if the majority of the others are not getting the usual me and have a problem with this, i'm sure he'll have to do something... not sure how far he'll go....

You have to move quickly.

I had my letter of release signed January 30, and I was going to start a job on March 1. They told me that the LOR expires after 2 weeks, and they're sending me on a visa run to Japan.

That being said, visas and such are more flexible in Korea. If you've been here a while, and if you have any Korean friends that are willing to sacrifice a day and talk to immigration officials, they may wave the 14 days.
