None of the world's best technologies in major areas are Korean, and the trend will probably continue for the next five years. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on Wednesday said the evaluation of 90 major scientific and technological sectors chosen in a survey found that the U.S. has 270 out of the 364 key technologies, the EU 60 and Japan 34.
The survey was conducted by questionnaire and interviews with experts based on research on theses and patent applications in key technologies in each country. The result suggests that Korea lags about 6.8 years behind the leading nations, and the country�s technological accomplishment is estimated at 72.8 percent of theirs.

There's been a lot of negative speculation in the media about the US recently. The economic crisis is very bad, no doubt, but if you look at these figures the US is still miles ahead of other countries in terms of science and technology. If the Obama administration can focus enough of this scientific prowess on renewables and other green tech the US is going to be well set up for the future. |

| True, but Korea is not who Americans should fear, for losing their spot as the 'top dog'. Korea would be lucky to overtake the state of California. |
