I have taken a job that pays hourly wage. They will not cover medical since I am considered an independant contractor. I have F-4 visa by the way. How do I get Korean National Health Insurance?

I have an F and I'm attached on my wife's NHI. I pay about 50K/ mo for NHI. If you speak K, go to the NHI place; if not, get a K speaker to go with you. You should be able to get it, but you will pay for it (though not much compared to the states).

Since you have an F-4 visa you can just go directly to a government health insurance (NHIC) office and get health insurance there. They will offer you insurance for about 65k won a month. You pay one month ahead but enjoy the normal benefits that Korean citizens get. You do not need to be married to a Korean or be employed. (That's what they told me at least and I have it now.)

I've never tried speaking to them in English but you may want to take someone who speaks Korean with you if you don't know how to speak Korean well.

Good luck.

You should know it is retroactive. So you have to pay for the months that you were issue the F4 visa. So let's say u were in Korea with ur visa for 7 months you will have to pay for those 7 months and pay every month for the coverage.

It is retroactive but you may be able to argue it from your last entrance into Korea. For me, I successfully argued it from my last entrance into the country. It depends on who you get, but you might be able to take a quick ride to Japan for a day to cut down the cost a bit.
