What are we covered for under the NHIC that the employer contributes half to? Im a tad confused by it and just trying to figure out if i was to have an accident or need medical attention whilst in Korea what im covered for, or in better words what im liable for? Here in the UK we pay an automatic contribution out of our wages that has nothing to do with our employer, that goes towards our NHS cover. If we need a prescription for medication from our GP we pay a small amount in range of 7 - 8 i believe, but if we need attention at A&E or ER if your North American, or any surgical procedure, we get that free of charge. So wondered how it works in Korea? |

I'm dragging this up after doing a search...
I've just got back from Samsung Medical Center after having an appointment with a doctor. He didn't really do much but I was still charged 70,000 won which I thought was steep.
I'm from the UK where you are not charged to go and see a doctor, rather you automatically contribute from your wages each month (like the OP said).
I do have NHIC here in Korea.
So should these kind of appointments cost as much as this? Sorry for being naive, but thankfully this is the first time I've ever had to visit a doctor overseas...
Thanks! |
