So I'm a total noob who's never left the country. I assume internet is the same everywhere, but is it? I'll be in Busan in about 2 weeks or so, and I'm wondering if I'll be able to access Hulu to watch all my favorite US TV shows.... can someone explain how internet works over there if its different? Thanks :)

You'll be able to watch Hulu with a program called Hot Spot Shield, but normally it'd be blocked. You can usually get most stuff over Surfthechannel though, and The Daily Show, Southpark and Colbert all stream from there homesites region free. Internet is pretty much exclusively cable. Your school should be able to get someone to come set it up for you within a day of you asking them.

the internet here you have to lick a bio-i.d. scanner on your mouse everytime you surf to a new page, and the web browser takes up only 20% of the screen because the rest is dedicated to messages from the government as per tradition in Asian countries

just make sure that you have your eyeglass prescription up to date and that you are properly hydrated and you'll be fine

and, oh yeah, ...

bring a supply of Duracell or Energizer 'AA' and 'AAA' batteries for your electronics as Asian technology uses a whole different kind of battery supply

It's not a ridiculous question because a lot of TV shows stream from sites that are region-blocked. Some folks have experience with "work arounds" on the internet, but some who've never needed to might not.

Of course, if wondering literally about internet in Korea, it is a bit silly since their internet is comparatively good/fast as nations go, from what I understand, and even a teeny bit of research reveals this. But in the context of TV shows, it seems reasonable.

Will that program that gets Hulu to work work on the ABC website too. My ABC shows don't load to Hulu Sad

Other than online tv viewing and web browser size on the screen, are there any major differences? I'm thinking about getting a NetFlix account to watch movies and tv online when I come to Korea. Would I need a program for that too? Am I correct in the assumption that websites like Facebook and hotmail or university-linked email are basically the same? I plan to use these as my primary methods of staying in touch with my family and friends.

please god tell me you were being sarcastic when you mentioned the web browser being smaller....you do realise he was takin the pi$$ whe he said that???

don't need to get any accounts, you can watch most tv shows on various sites and you can download pretty good quality movies (screeners) from mininova etc using a bittorrent client. don't pay for anything cos the download speed is so fast you will be stealing movies, tv shows and music all day long!!
