Ok so I renew my (UK) passport, hear its arrived at school (along with my old passport), but by the time I arrive a week later it has mysteriously disappeared (I won't go into details but the circumstances suggest it was stolen).

So, I'm left with an alien card and will be calling the embassy today to see what I should do next. But as far as the embassy were concerned when I asked questions about my visa when I renewed the passport, they are not interested in visas, it concerns Korean immigration.

The embassy will eventually give me a new passport, but it will not have a visa in it nor mention when I arrived. I'm a little concerned about when I come to renew my contract in 6 months that immigration is going to have issues with a visa-free, entrance-stamp-free passport.

Has this happened to anyone else / anyone have any comments or advice?

Have someone at your school call Immigration and ask what you should do. It's likely you will need to make a trip there to get a new visa stamp.

Was there anything in the discussion about your missing passports that would indicate the school is holding them hostage? It's been known to happen.

When you get the new, replacement passport you must take it, your ARC and the 신 청 서(신 고 서) APPLICATION FORM(REPORT FORM) to Immigration within 14 days. They will look after everything.

Yes, you must within (I think it is 14 days) go to Immigration and tell them that you have a new passport. Immigration will want the number. Just tell them that you lost the old one and yes you have a valid E-2, (your ARC should suffice as proof). Then just give them your passport, and they will type the number in and that should be that.

Been there, done that. Admittedly that was a few years ago..but unless things have changed since, that should be more or less the scenario. As long as it is on record it shouldn't matter in terms of renewal...but I'd start getting documents (like the CBC) ready again, just in case.
I didn't have to, but every Immigration office seems to have a different policy. Or you could ask them about that, when you go in to give them your new passport #.

Never get your school to do anything with immigration for you, they will screw up and blame you!
