A new teacher has joined the school. She was working in Indonesia for several years.
I asked her if she missed the food there. She said not really but she had spices coming in her boxes.
I helpfully volunteered that she could go to the local Asian supermarket. To which she replied
I only like Korean food. I'm bringing the spices back for a friend. I rarely ate local food out there. I didn't like it.
I think she was there for three or four years.
Korean food isn't my favorite, but I eat it and enjoy some of it, there are some that I don't like, but I don't not like all of it. |

Should we assume this person is Korean? |

Oddly enough yes. |

| Just leave them to their kimchi, twigs and branches. I don't mind Korean food, but I haven't had it (save the odd cup of ramien) in a few weeks. |

Kind of like the foreigners here who rarely eat Korean food.
What does it matter? What you eat it up to you. I sneer at those who can't use chopsticks or eat kimchi as much as anyone, but when it comes down to it, it's personal choice. |

What is your favorite Indonesian food?
None.
FFS that is just pathetic after that length of time there. |

| She must have not ate a lot in those 3 years then. I imagine finding cheap or any Korean food over there would be quite difficult. |

Yep, as an expat in Jakarta I can honestly say that the Korean community is the most cloistered, insular and frequently loathed section of the non-native population here. |

koreans only eating korean food when abroad is not unusual at all. haven't you checked out that little grocery shop at incheon airport? they've got tubs of stuff for koreans to take with them so they'll never have to resort to foreign food.

In reality, or just in your imagination? My money is on the latter.

You mean it never really happened, so you haven't had a chance to point it out yet, don't you?

I'm sure that, ultimately, they are the real winners. |
