|
|
Okay, I'm not one to travel around or do much during 5-day weekends in Korea.. BUT..
I'm thinking of taking a subway/bus to Pusan to take a ferry over to Fukuoka.
What kind of traffic patterns do you expect I'd be experiencing.. and would you recommend leaving Seoul on Thurday for Pusan? (Instead of Wednesday).. |

whenever you go, you'll get traffic of course, but i'd be less worried about getting there than about getting back to seoul. make sure you book your ticket by your choice of transportation, like, today. i ran into this trouble before. |

bus tickets might be sold out unless you book ahead of time .. at least that's what i hear about the trains. |

TAKE A TRAIN AND GET A ROUND TRIP RESERVATION!!! The bus will probably take you 15-20 hours to Busan from Seoul......really!! |

My follow-up question would be.. do they pack the trains like sardines? Meaning I can get on no matter what if I'm comfortable enough with being uncomfortable for 4-5 hours??
Second question is would Thursday be a better day to make the trip as oppposed to Wednesday? |

I would suggest flying. There are a lot of SEL-PUS/PUS-SEL flights every day, the cost is not too much more than a train ticket, and there's usually space available, even during the holidays. |

Standing tickets are sold on the trains, but still make a reservation...NOW!
Traffic will still be bad on Thursday, as people will be traveling to gravesites. |

Train travel: so realistically Wednesday or Thursday doesn't matter, right?
How about Wednesday overnight? No one will be traveling then, right?
Dogbert's flying option is a good one however. Still easy to pick up tickets for that? That may indeed be the best option yet. |

HAHAHAHA!
Trust me...trains are never empty, and it's nearly impossible to get on a train during a major holiday unless you book it weeks in advance. I did the train to Busan once, and it's a decent trip if you've got a seat, but I'd never consider standing all the way to Busan. If you know the trains well enough, you can find yourself a place to camp out and sit down on a cold floor or something, but if you don't know the holiday train dilemma, you don't know the trains well enough.
The train will also cost around 25-35,000 won each way, and the Beetle ferry isn't very scenic and costs around 80,000 won or so each way...and that's only if you book a round trip ticket from Korea. If you try to buy a ticket in Japan, you'll pay out the nose for it.
If you do this, it's a solid 8 or 9 hours of travel to do what you could do in an hour or so by plane. I'd only take this route again if I intended to hang out in Busan for a little while... |

Hmm.. zyzyfer.. sounds like I'll either have to book a flight to Pusan or to Fukuoka. No other way around it in any kind of pleasant way.
I've taken the ferry boat from Pusan to Shimonoseki before. No scenery.. but I'm guessing flights aren't going to be all that cheap at that time from Seoul-Fukuoka.
Rylees, that girl is from Colombia. Me gusto mucho de Colombianas!! |
