So I'm stuck in the U.S. for the first time in 7 years and I've been watching way too much American t.v. One thing that shocks me is how many commercials there are for dating websites. Match.com, eharmony.com, chemistry.com are pushing their sites like every 5 minutes. Does anyone still meet IRL in America?

Match.com has been extremely popular for over five years; I'm not sure what it says about our society, but it probably isn't so great.

I'm curious why you are watching so much tv if you haven't been in the US for so long? I would think you might like to get out and about, don't you miss seeing some things, aren't you curious to see what's changed(in real life, not just on tv)?

No criticsm of judgement here, I'm just curious.

BTW, I met a woman online who was in another country, but I knew she was planning soon to move to the US. I ended up having a relationship with her, but I did learn that she was fairly different in real life than I had imagined from our many hours of online chats and phone calls. So been there done that and meeting in real life is much better; there is too much room for fantasy online, and I am prone to imagining something is better than it is, wishful thinking. Having said that, I know personally of several people who met online, and ended up getting married, and are still together; so I do think the internet offers a great opportunity--it all depends on how you use it.

I agree with your assessment of internet dating; it's full of dangers, but full of potential, too.

I'm not in the U.S. anymore, but to answer your question: I visit the U.S. every year, so I get plenty of chances to go out and see how things have changed. I guess that's why I don't want to, anymore...
