So often I hear that this place is so safe and there is so much less crime... I don't think so. |

Well, I can only add my own personal experience.
Once after a two day trip to Seoul, I returned to my city to find I had left my key in the ignition of my motorcycle at the train station. I can't believe how daft I was to do that, but the bike was there when I got back, exactly as I left it.
Again, I can't speak for the whole country, but I was pretty impressed by that. Kudos Korea.

Well, did you start hearing your Bay City Rollers tunes coming from the other side of the wall? |

No but I knew he didn't like me. my theory is that he or a friend stole them and sold them - gave them away. the sad thing is those CD's are all irreplaceable in Korea. Tons of indie bands from Canada. I haven't seen any Canadian music in Korea outside of Celine Dion and Bryan Adams. |

My first year in Korea was in Kangwon-do. I had 500,000 won ripped off from a dresser drawer in my bedroom (probably someone I knew).
A year later I had my camera (EOS) and some money stolen from my room in the boarding house in Shinchon.
Two years or so after that I had a small amount of money stolen from my apartment in Kwang-ju, Cholla-do.
I've had this discussion with my girlfriend numerous times. I think the official crime rate in Korea is low because crime is not generally reported. Her father had his store broken into and he didn't report anything to the police.
Oh, and for the record, this isn't a 'thread,' it's a 'meboaonaatdl.'

I have never had anything stolen maybe except for some books disappearing. And having candy stolen by children.
But my father had his university class ring - gold and a big diamond stolen from his room which was in the same building as the hagwon. Likely he either lost it or it got grabbed. A shame.
Overall theft was not much of a problem here for me.
Getting gyped through did happen once in a while.

I had a room that was below ground, one afternoon someone reached through the window and took my pants off the dresser and stole my 300,000 won cash then he threw my jeans in the alley. Bastard. |

My scooter was stolen in December, leaving me out 500,000.
Other than that, fellow teachers steal my board markers, pens, etc. all the time. |

Someone cut through the lock on my bike parked in front of the school. For whatever reason, more expensive yet less secure bikes were left untouched. Sure the crime rate is a lot lower than (take your pick of countries) but sh*t can happen anywhere... |

I was told Koreans never steal? Maybe this is true? I had a brand new Nikon F2 Camera stolen out of my room. I had never used it. I was told it must have been another teacher who stoled it? |
