Before I arrived here, I'd often read threads that countered the torturous waiting game for a visa -- you know the kind, the sweet threads about the nice students, nice people ... adventure. Anything and everything that helped the wait feel worth it.

Now as I'm nearing the end of my contract, it's dawned on me that I need another kind of thread. This one is dedicated to everyone that can't wait to GTFO. To all of you that's still here and not renewing, let's countdown.

Very Happy

A little over 11 weeks! Not much, really.

If you're looking forward to getting out then congratulations! You're almost there! I've been in Asia so long. Sooooooooooo loooooooong. I haven't been home since January 9th or 10th, 2003!!!!

June 30, 2009 is the magical date for me. T minus... I'll have to get back to you on that. Have to go buy a cell phone charger...

Reasons why I shouldn't leave now (although it would be sweet as all hell to just be out of here):

1 Money - opportunity loss: 5-months pay + severance pay + pension refund + airfare back.
2 I've made it this far.
3 I'm waiting for my immi papers for my next move anyway.
4 School really ends on Dec 29th, the rest is break, and even though it will be cold and depressing around my parts during winter, there's basically no more classes left after that.
5 I hear December is a pretty chill month to teach since the kids are prepping for finals and once that's over, all they're thinking about is vacation.

My students were at the top of my list a few months ago and they're still sweet and all but to be completely honest, me > them ... I'm so over it.

exactly 6 weeks... fly out on nov.20th to taiwan for a few days, then over to cambodia... from there i'll be dirtbiking over to vietnam... then catching the bus back through cambodia and into thailand (hopefully if things settle down enough), then bus back into cambodia... after a month or so of this, i'm flying back to kland to begin teaching for another year right after xmas...

i know, this is a thread for those that are leaving for good, but a month & a half my get my head straight... hopefully... as really only money is keeping me here and everyone knows what's up with the won... might only be back here for a short stint...

good luck to everyone who's outta here... i can't wait to feel what you're feeling...

Captain Marlow, that sounds like tons of fun! For sanity's sake this thread is for anyone counting down to get away (preferably for good but we gotta appreciate all forms). Thanks for posting! Very Happy

On a side note, I'm really, really looking forward to the day when I'm not updating this page every day!

I spoke to the post office and found out a box sent by freight takes as long as 2-months. It's still worth it considering how cheap it is - 10kg is 28,000 won and 20kg 48,000 won. I'm separating my summer clothes and as soon as I confirm the size restriction, I'm sending that baby off.

It feels good to pack!

92 days Cool . I'm not completely sure if I'll come back to Korea. I really would like to move on and try something else. I've spent so many years in Korea that I think it is time to move to the next stage. I'm thankful for all the things that working in Korea has provided for me, but I'm just really tired of being a guest worker and being on the E2 slave visa year after year. Life is all about change anyway, you can't learn much if you do the same thing for too long.

Only seven weeks (as of today, Oct. 13) until winter 'vacation' because I don't count Dec. as a teaching month - after final exams it's movie time! Cool

My plane leaves tomorrow. I hate this place so much I'm thinking of going to the airport today and just sleep over in those waiting chairs.

god, i hate this place and i'm korean. i hate koreans too and it's been only a week. koreans remind me of americans, just not so brazenly open about it. so now i dislike koreans and americans. i always got along with japanese, even in america and they were the nicest people to work for. Chinese were a pain but not as bad as koreans or americans.

10 weeks left! Yay! I confess, my week's been great so far. If it'll only continue like this, I might even start to miss this place ... hmm ... OK maybe miss is too strong of a word.

Ten weeks can seem like an eternity. Good for you for sticking to it. I couldn't do it, I've been at my new job for almost a month now...
