The way it works in Korea is that if you finish the contracted rental term the landlord finds the new tennant, if you want to move before the contracted rental term is up, you find the new tennant and they won't give you back your deposit (Jonsae) until you do.
I've had to do this twice now. I spoke with our real estate agent to check if this is the way it's done and had it confirmed. I know a couple of other people who have had to do this, too. |

You can move whenever you want.
You will have to pay for all of the months you are not going to stay there but you will get your deposit back.
Otherwise you can find another person.
(Ex. One year contract. I live in Crapholeapt for 9 months and say enough is enough.
So I tell them I want to move and they say give me the last 3 months rent and I'll give you your deposit money back.
I pay them.
They give me my deposit money.) |
