It has hit that wonderful time of the year, yes midterm exams are on the horizon for most public schools now. What does that mean for some people? It means about two weeks of "catch up on your other projects" time while the students are preparing for the exams. It has become less painful for me as the years go by, i.e. the teachers with whom I work give me notice that or extracurricular projects can be done during this time. It helps in terms of curriculum development and planning for summer camps. So, it is welcomed time for me. How is it in your school? I know not everyone has the same situation due to the level of the school but for those in the public high schools it tends to offer some extra free time for other things. Post your own experiences here if you want. Cheers |

Well a lot of my after school kids are using it as an excuse to bunk off and 'revise', as long as I get paid I don't care. I have most of next week off, well no lessons, still have to seat warm I assume.
In fact I just asked, I get to go hiking in the afternoons?! Not sure what that's about but it sounds interesting. |

I teach all my classes right up until exam time. On exam days I have an invigilation schedule just like all the K-teachers. However, on exam days I can go home at 12:45 (after the last exam of the day)... and usually, on the afternoon of last day of exams, the teachers, admin. & staff all go 'mountain climbing' then have dinner (with lots of maek-jju and soju) at some restaurant. |

i teach all my classes right up until the exams also (occasionally, a teacher might cancel a class because the kids are behind), but during the exam period (2 days) i'll probably just have one parents class. |

I'm not sure about next week. I'm usually the last to know these types of things. It will probably be the same as normal I imagine.
Then exam week runs into a two day holiday for me so I'll be taking a vacation to Thailand. Well I hope I'll be taking a vacation to Thailand. My girlfriend is worried about going. |

My highschool classes are right up until next Friday but then during exams I seatwarm and then leave early. I've been told that there might be 'teacher parties' every day that week. We shall see! |

|

Korea is on semester system so that means around nine weeks into the term give or take a week. The midterms at my school fall on the 9th week. Add the week before for preparation leading up to the midterm, then add the long weekend following the midterm because of Children's day (May 5) falling on Tuesday this year and it gives me about three weeks of work on the next project time for computer research. My school loves the extra time I spend on the projects because it makes them look good. I don't mind because it helps me stay on top of what is going on in education, and the end result is a product that the school can utilize for English education. Been doing this for four years at the same school, and they have loved it as much as I do. |

When are the midterms? No one has told me much at my high school. I found out about last weeks election day the day before. Is it toward the end of the month or beginning of may? |

Our exams start on the 27th or 28th of this month. Now we're on a different schedule until the exams start. My first class is at its regular time of 50 minutes, but the second and third come in at 40 minutes. During exam week, I'll likely get a lot of work done on my parents' class which is every Friday for two hours. |

Around the ninth week which this year falls on the last week of April, and Children's Day is on the next Tuesday (May 5), which is making a long weekend for many school who will choose to take an extra break day on Monday, May 4.
Just ask your co-teacher. They are not real good about informing, but I have just gotten in the habit of asking when the special days and events are, because it helps me plan more efficiently. Nevertheless, it will be good to get the extra time to do some other work that has been pushed aside for awhile. |

Ours are the first week in May, meaning we all have to come in on Monday for midterms, take Tuesday off for Children's Day, and do more midterms Wednesday through Friday. I am told the week before midterms, I will probably not have any classes, but I have to help proctor the midterms, I guess. We'll see. |

Haha, I love mid-terms! Mine are actually next week (high school). This week, 10 or my 16 classes of students were canceled for "catch-up time."
Wonderful. Mid-terms last from Monday until Thursday, but there is a fieldtrip on Friday, supposedly, so no classes all week. Those weeks are always over before they even start, however . |
