I ask because I see a number of threads on this board where people are in a bind because they've been fired just short of completing a full term. Usually it appears that the employer is trying to get out of severance/air fair.

My question is this: Exactly how common is this?

Depends on whom you ask. My guess is since the squeak wheel gets the most grease, it's more common for people to complain than not.

It's impossible to know. There are reports of it happening, but we only get one side of the story.
