|
|
I know there is free wifi in starbucks. A Korean friend of mine, connects to the NESPOT network, opens a browser logs in to a portal with her info and away she goes.
I can connect to the network which looks like a standard NESPOT connection but I am not redirected to the appropriate portal nor can I navigate to it manually. I'm never actually assigned an IP and try as I might I can't figure out what's up.
I'm using English version of Vista on a Canadian Dell Laptop.
Anyone had luck getting free starbucks Internet on their setup? |

I realize NESPOT typically isn't free but Starbucks actually has a free wifi in Busan that I believe to be through NESPOT. I can't remember for certain but I am 99% it is a NESPOT portal and it is definitely advertised as free in the couple starbucks I have frequented here.
My Korean friend has confirmed many times that she doesn't pay for it and I've seen the signs. |

I've picked up NESPOT for free on my Ipod Touch before. Not lately though and not at Starbucks. |

Are you in Busan? I know Seomyeon has a lot of non-Starbucks cafes with Wi-Fi. The Pascucci franchise always seems to have it but so do the other well known franchises. |

You can get portable keys/watches that tell if wi-fi is available in an area. You can even get t-shirts that change color when there's wi-fi in an area!

The only potential problem I can see is that the t-shirt doesn't give the security status of a signal. Nespot is ridiculously prohibitive (unless it's free!). |

strange as I've never picked up free wifi at starbucks in Seoul. It always links to nespot requiring a log-in. |

Given the very low cost of Internet in Seoul, no bandwidth limits and the appeal of free Wifi, I'm suprised that Nespot can find a market.
Wibro is absolutely worth a look. And it works on subways and buses. |

...The price is that you must have a Starbucks card and that you use it once a month for a minimum of $5 or something. I've been using the card to buy my coffee, but never once for wifi. Does anyone know if Starbucks in Korea have the same program? |

But there are so many open hotspots all over the place. Why not just tap into one? |

Most coffeeshops (Tom Tom's, Holly's, etc) have free wifi. |
