It has been quietly erased from the history books as...errr...a lie. And Auschwitz -- the 4,000,000 that died there? Err...well the curator of the Auschwitz Museum recently removed a plaque that said it was 4,000,000. Now the number they are standing by is a solid 1,500,000. Puzzlingly, the total number of those who perished remains 6,000,000, though. Need help with the math? It goes like this:

6,000,000 minus 2,500,000 equals 6,000,000.

If you dispute that math in any western country -- god help you. In Austria you could be imprisoned for disputing that equation.

Here is the most recent...errr...modification. This fella wrote this wonderful love story about meeting his wife when she threw apples at him over the fence of his concentration camp. Oprah bought it. So did lots of others. Turns out...errr....well he 'just wanted to make people happy' so he told a little fib. Just to make people happy. Oh, and maybe make a little money.

So, there is no question that what we were taught in high school wasn't all true. There is also no question that what we are being told now by survivors is also not ALL true (of course most of it probably is). We know that for a fact. What else is maybe not entirely true?

All I know is that many, many innocent people were murdered by the Nazis before and during the war and I don't really see any benefit to be gained by disputing how many people were killed.

Good luck on this one Trevor. Many innocent people were indeed killed in the Holoco$t and the survivors are doing the same to the Palestinians.

You are about to get a new arsehole ripped.

So, if I understand you correctly, you acknowledge the possibility that everything you have been taught may not be entirely true, but you do not wish to offend or upset anybody, and consequently you are happy to have these same unexamined issues continue to be taught in order to maintain social harmony.

Is that roughly it?

Quite. It also makes you wonder why it's illegal to dispute the numbers in many countries.

Let me get this straight...Nazism is perfectly OK as a political philosophy because only 1,500,000 were gassed at Auschwitz because they were Jews, gay, Gypsies, Communist or of low mental ability. Is that correct?
