I have a misdemeanor underage drinking citation about 7 years back that showed up on my criminal background check. Will this have any effect on me being able to teach in Korea since it is such a minor offense.? Thank you and its the only thing on my record except a speeding ticket.

underage drinking citation? WTF! lol

you americans dont half have some funny laws. Theres no such offense here in the UK even if you DID drink in a bar under 18. And what's even more funny is it's 21 in america.lol

Cant you just delete it? It's only a piece of paper for christs sake. The cops ent gonna come along with you to the korean immi you know. lol

Haha, yeah i know..Its more or less a fine I had to pay.. Courts in America only care about $, that's why it IS a law in the US... I want to know if this would stop me from getting my teaching visa from Korea; after signing a contract and sending all my papers over to Korea, surely not right? Thank you

OP, i wouldn't risk it having any record what so ever. Immigration is a real hit or miss with criminal records. My advice is to go to another department, like your local sheriff's office or the next town overs department. When you ask for a background check, they should provide one for that department only. Therefore, it should be clear and accepted with no questions asked.

You could have that squashed from your record. After 10 years or something? Not sure.

Ok, so if I go to my neighboring county court where I have no record and get a check done there, I'll be fine? They won't know that it is not my local hometown county?
