I heard that GEPIK will no longer be a co-teaching program. I've heard two rumours one is that we will split the class in half and solo teach. Another is that our classes will be supervised by Korean home room teachers.

Both are possible under the current contract. It's up to your school to decide what to do.

I like the direction. Split the class up. Any behaviour problems, "Okay, stand up, go to Miss Kim's class. Bye bye. "

Co-teachers are useless anyway.

I had to do this for two of my classes last year just to be able to teach anything.

Watching the kids snacking on sugar in the morning I am thinking diet might be a factor. Some kids are just getting out of hand lately. We just graduated the nicest bunch of students but our new 3 rd years are monsters.

I could see that happening at elementary schools but there's no way that's going to happen at middle or high schools.

If you can't control your class you have no business being in a classroom (as a teacher), IMO.

i wish it would happen at middle and high schools, but the co-teachers like using our classes as their spares too much. if the classes were divided, they'd actually have to do something

I doesn't bother me much, but for MS it would be nice to know whether I'll have a CT in the classroom for the whole lesson or part of a lesson or not. My approach to and preparation for presenting / explaining things is quite a bit different depending upon whether or not I'll have someone who can translate certain things.

The homeroom teacher thing worked perfectly for me this year. I was left to teach while the homeroom teachers stood at the back and either tried to translate when it was needed and looked after the troublesome students. Most even sang and danced with the students. At my schools most of the teachers don't speak English well, but it was good to have them there. Some of them leave and treat the period as a free one, but those classes were generally good anyway.

It was much better to be the only teacher teaching in the room.

Unfortunately they are paying foreigners as assistants, so maybe if they want to differentiate between fresh out of college no credentials people and those who can teach they need two VERY different pay scales.
