I believe it's about 1 hour from Cheonan to the Seoul Bus Station. |

Yes, it's one hour by bus or by train. If you look on a map, find Seoul, then look for Dae-jeon/Tae-jon, which is the next "big" city to the south. Chonan is between them on the train line.
There are about 600,000 people in Chonan and lots of hakwons. I know over 50 Westerners, and I'm sure there's way more than that.
A few ammenities:
1. Carrefour (some imported foods)
2. E-Mart
3. Lotte Mart
4. Pizza Hut
5. BK and McDoos
6. KFC
7. Multi-plex theatre (8 screens, 2 years old and VERY nice)
8. TGI Fridays (opening this winter)
9. It's right on the train line, so it's easy to travel
I've lived here 3 years and I really like it. Seoul is easy enough to get to when I want to be surrounded by 28 million other people. Chonan is kind of known as a college/university town.
