We are looking for an experienced and dedicated teacher to fill a full-time teaching position in the beautiful city of Seosan. Our school ,English Genius Academy, caters only to the best academic students with best behavior from upper elementary and middle school. Only 4 students in one class.
Good news about the contract:
-3.5 million won per month
-100% health insurance is paid
-half of the national pension is paid(you take it when you leave)
-a perfectly furnished single studio with all utilities paid (water ,gas, electricity, phone bill-up to 10,000 won,.)

-two more native teachers and two fluent English speaking Korean teachers
-Seosan in South Chungchong province is located 1 hour 30 minutes from Seoul with easy access by bus, 30 minutes from the beautiful Western beaches and 10 minutes from the mountains.
-classes are very small and with only smart ones. Showing respect to the teacher is the most important basis of learning. If they are lazy or misbehaving, they'll be kicked out right away.
-We are just 5 teachers and a secretary and considered to be family members.
-You have your own classroom and students come to yours.
-Great chance to save a lot of money-literally you don't need to spend any except your groceries . 1 year savings account is arranged for you with 6 % interest rate.
-highly rewarding to teach the smart and motivated ones
Challenging news about the position:
-You work from Monday through Saturday every week
-You work on the National holidays too, except the Korean Thanksgiving and New year's holidays (instead you have 30days vacations. During our students school exam period, you have each 6 days vacation(including Sunday it is 7 days.) 4 times a year and 3 days for summer another 3 days for winter vacation. Great chance to travel neighboring countries.)
-You have 9 classes-one class lasts 45 minutes- everyday from 3:40p.m to 11:35p.m.-Saturday starts from 1:20 to 9:15p.m.. You have a 35 minute dinner break.
-There is a staff meeting at noon for 40minutes. We have a lively discussion about each prepared topic in a very pleasant atmosphere-never talk about the school or students matter. This is entirely for our school's family harmony. Every Friday, we have a gourmet restaurant hopping at the meeting.
-Not much time to party and have fun with your friends.
-You need to be both physically and mentally strong to endure the late night teaching condition. You also need to be independent.
-You've got to be a professional teacher with friendly teaching skills

Oh boy! What a treat! Teach 54 classes a week for 3.5! Only Sundays off and you have to work national holidays.

Teach 3:40 to 11:35 pm. Great. Oh, but get this! There's also a staff meeting every day at noon for 40 minutes!

Seosan is beautiful?? Sorry, I live here and that would never be one of the words I would use to describe it!

This job sounds like it sucks. You work long hours and you have to go in early every day to attend a "family harmony" meeting. Ha!

They seem to be upfront about it.

Also, it's not 3 days vacation - it appears to be 6 days at a time? I don't understand that part at all.

A person would have to be superhuman to do that schedule for long (working at ANY field/job). I have to figure nobody resigns for a second year.

I don't see the problem with this. At least they are honest that the schedule sucks. If you are here to save as much money as possible then you could probably do a lot worse.

With noon meetings that would be 12+ hour days six days a week. How many privates would you have to do to top up a 2.2 salary to 3.5?

Of course the job blows. It pays 3.5 mil, and is ADVERTISED? Good jobs that pay well are never available. Those that suck always need to advertise. And this one sucks pretty bad to be open at that pay rate.

Look down at your feet at that 20 dollar bill lying on the sidewalk. Oh, you say there is no 20 lying on the ground? Why not?

While the pay is good the hours are bad, really bad.

If you crunch the numbers the hourly rate is about the same as somebody working 120 hours a month for 2 million won.

And working Saturdays and national holidays to boot?

Not worth it...unless all you care about is money.

How much would you do it for? Just curious, for those hours, what would you ask for?

About 5 million won/month. You don't really have much of a life outside work....9 classes every day? Weekdays you are there until around midnight. Saturdays past 9 PM. The vacation sounds good but really it's only about 10 days more than you get at a public school...and if the principal likes you, that can easily be matched.

For comparision purposes let's look at Chungnam province. The top payscale is 2.8 for 22 hours a week. This job offers 2.5 times the workload for less than a million more.

4 X 6 day vacations during exam periods = 24 days
2 X 3 day vacations during summer/winter = 6 days
total = 30 days

5 million sounds about right.

They are kind of vague on the vacation. I'll be there's some bait and switch involved with that and other things.
