Today, it is the word and concept: Cryptomnesia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptomnesia
Quote: |
Cryptomnesia, or inadvertent plagiarism, is a memory bias whereby a person falsely recalls generating a thought, an idea, a song, or a joke, when the thought was actually generated by someone else. In these cases, the person is not deliberately engaging in plagiarism, but is rather experiencing a memory as if it were a new inspiration. |
I always wondered about distinction between plagiarism and inadvertent reproduction of an idea you once absorbed in the past.
Now it has a name!
What did you learn today?

That if you want to get technical, nearly every thought we have could be classified as cryptomnesia.
