It seems that every political, sociological, or philosophical conversation I have seems to turn into an America bashing conversation. Unless they actually know I am American that person will just blurt it out either assuming I am American or someone around is.

I do understand America's position in the world opens itself to this kind of bashing. The government has done a lot of stupid shit since our founding. But please, I had nothing to do with it so quit indirectly blaming me for it. I apparently dont like it that much or i wouldnt be exploring the world trying to better myself.

it is old, and I dont know how other racial or other groups feel, but thinking you are better than me because you are from a different country is exactly what you are complaining about hypocrite.

there is a difference between bashing America and bashing Americans. most people who say negative things about your country aren't doing it to hurt you, but are hoping that you: 1) learn about how OTHER people are affected by your country's actions (especially things not mentioned on CNN), and 2) maybe try to do something about it. You have the right to vote and engage in political action in your country, and they don't.

We Westerners do deserve a bit of the bashing we get. We go on and on about our freedom, representative democracy, and civilian control of the government and military. Therefore we are more responsible for what those governments do in our name. I wish more citizens remembered this when it is time to vote because only nuts and whackjobs seem to vote on a regular basis. That is why we get nuts in office.

NO!

You can't weasel out of your share of guilt for what YOUR government has done. You claim to be a democracy, and as such your government is supposed to represent its people and its wishes.

You as a people need to create a real democracy in your country. Sorry to say it, but what you have now is not democracy. You have no real choice beyond Puppet A and Puppet B.

If you don't realise that your 2 parties are the exact same, merely with 2 different wrappings, well then... just keep choosing your sides, red or blue, and pretend to be innocent when the other team is making the choices.

Right, they're EXACTLY the same! *sarcasm*. First of all, you do know the difference between a democracy and a republic, right? The US is a republic. We have democratic ideals, but when it all boils down, we're a republic.

I'm not excusing what my government has done here... I've worked to make it better.

Tell me, where are you from, and I'll give you a laundry list of the injustices your government has done. Nobody's innocent.

What planet are you from?
We never claimed to be a democracy, nor do we aspire to be.
TEXAS, Republic of, baby.
You might want to re-think the 2 party system you attempt to deride.
The R3VOLUTION is on, genius.

You hope for a time when America is most respected as #1.

(Admit. You're American. You can't help it. it's a cultural thing. It's what this thread is really all about.)

Everyone needs somebody else to blame.

Americans hate our politicians and government just as much as everybody else, but when somebody else criticizes USA, we take offense. It's just natural.

I believe the same thing goes on in UK with the Queen.

So does this mean we are or aren't guilty? If we can only choose between Puppet A and Puppet B, then we're not guilty. But you're saying we are guilty? Because we're a democracy? But that we're not a democracy? I'm confused.

I am an American, will alway's be an American, right or wrong! And I admit there is a lot wrong with my country. Especially right now. I would expect anyone from any other country to feel the exact same way. When your big and bad boy on the block, everyone wants to knock you down. Anyone who bad mouths the U.S. knows it. All the Americans out there, don't even bother listening to the Caca spewing out of non-American vocal chords!

And I hope for a time when America takes responsibility for the atrocities it's committed and the millions of innocent lives taken in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, Cambodia. . .well, the list goes on, really.

Pointing out other injustices doesn't negate your own. It's been that way since kindergarten, at least where I'm from.

I have no problem with Americans the people but America the country has done some pretty despicable things and I'm not going to bite my tongue if it's bought up in the company of Americans to spare their precious patriotic feelings.
