Looks like a lot of older alcoholics to me--construction workers, car salesmen. Who else doesn't sock away a little cash every month for times like these?

At least they have decent tents. But, the one guy just had a coffee can for a soup cooker. If they had homes a few months ago, why didn't they bring their pots and pans with them, unless they never had homes, pots or pans?

The Hoovervilles are back! Yep, I knew and expected this to be happening. If you live paycheck to paycheck as many Americans have done for so long and then you lose you're job, you're homeless within a month if you don't have relatives willing to lend you a helping hand.

Yep. I'm thinking about whether living in a tent in California would be worse than moving back in with my parents in Saskatchewan.... tough call.

I really hope life kicks you on your butt to adjust your thinking. Get some compassion in that heart of yours.

Most rich people are still 21 days away from going broke if they lose their jobs

Signing up fro a mortgage to a house you can't afford doesn't make you rich. In my opinion if you were dis-honest enough to do that you deserve to be homeless. And now these people expect to be bailed out and rewarded for there dis-honesty.

Most "rich" people aren't a pay check away from poverty. "Rich" people are wealthy for a reason and they usually aren't just wealthy in money.

This is sap-fest journalism, nothing else. There are always poor people and people who choose to be homeless. Not just now. I'm not saying that times aren't tough but using a "news" article as your guide is very mis-guided.

I have heard there is a similar tent city in Edmonton, although in that case it's because there isn't enough housing available.

How can the construction worker guy work for thirty years and not have a nickel to his name? Construction doesnt pay that poorly. If that husband and wife duo each got a minimum wage job, they should at least be able to afford a ratty motel room. And cooking in a coffee tin? A bit much I think. All they need now is a stick, with a handkerchief wrapped around all their worldly possessions, propped against their shoulder as they walk down the road trying to catch the next empty box car.

Although Brown recentally lost 'face' during his trip to the US, we in the UK are sending aid 'across the pond'.

We are sending over Ray Mears in the next week or so to show these people how to cook some good bush tucca and build decent shelters out of basic cheap household items.

He's gonna do a series on it. Watch this space...................

I bet they won't be as adaptable as the Aboriginal people!

I wonder what the title of the series will be? Ray on.........?
