There is a student who constantly says "I love you" to me. I just try to ignore it but it's become more frequent. What should I do? Play the rockstar and send it back? Tell her not to say it? Just ignore it and store it away, knowing I'm a god to these kids?

Usually when a student says "I love you" to a teacher - and is below the age of 15y.o. - it just means the student -

(a) wants you to give him/her some of the chocolate/candy on your desk

(b) wants you to give him/her some of the chips/popcorn on your desk

or

(c) wants you to give him/her some of the snacks/food on your desk

don't get too flustered - the students know it works on Mommy and Daddy and use it on teachers also... - just to get something they want.

I learnt long ago - NEVER - to have food in the classroom - because either -

(1) you will have to share it with every student in the classroom

or (2) they will all call you pig (if you don't share it accordingly)

(Just ignore the "I love you" rubbish)

I never bring food into the classroom. The most I ever bring is water. I guess I did buy them all food one day because they were complaining they were starving.

I'm assuming this post is a joke, but if it's not:

"I love you" doesn't mean even remotely the same thing here. It's a phrase in a foreign language that has very little emotional impact at all. Think of it as "I like you," at most. As another poster pointed out, they may also be putting on a cutesy show for you (or their friends). It is, in no way, anything to worry about.

I just left a job of two years at a girl's high school. If I got worried every time I heard "I love you," I would have had a heart attack in the first week. Come up with some reply and use it whenever she says it (mine was generally "I know").

Just like "you're handsome." I hope that doesn't make you feel any less of a stud.

"I love you" = "You're awesome!" here in Korea.

It does not carry the same level of meaning where we are from. They toss it around very casually around here.

It was meant as a joke. I guess I just found it funny. But I also don't want to seem like a jerk or get in trouble with parents. I guess I just wanted to know how fine the line was there. I thought about saying "I know" or something to that extent back but wasn't sure. So far I've just ignored it and smiled.

Indeed. I know I sure had no idea how handsome I was until I started teaching here.

I've got the same feeling. But instead of "handsome" it's "loser". Shocked

Yea I hate the HANDSOME crap too. I mean I am no ugo. But would it hurt to learn to say "Teacher, you are nice" or "Teacher, you are very generous".
I made myself a little promise if a student said that I would be nice or generous. But time after time I get "Teacher, you are Handsome."

Arghhh Evil or Very Mad

They say this when they are truly in love with you and want to marry you. If you're interested wait until they're legal age and marry them.

"You're handsome" = "You're not ugly."

When students tell me they love me, I tell them "I love you too."
All in fun either way.
