Pick up a cheap phone to use in Korea whilst I'm there? I plan on going for about a month but was wondering if it was worth getting an international calling card or cheap mobile phone. I plan on visiting Japan also so not sure if it'll work there.
Also, about the seoul subways. Is it possible to get a pass for so many days or weeks or do I have to keep buying individual tickets!?
Thanks and excuse my ignorance |

You can rent a mobile as soon as you clear customs at Incheon airport, you'll see cell phone companies w/desks in the arrivals area...Don't know how cheap it is, though.
Buying a (used) prepaid probably isn't worth it to you for such a short time, since you CANNOT use your Korean cell phone outside Korea (unless you want to pay outrageous roaming charges) and getting one without a Korean ID card can sometimes be a big hassle.
As for subways, you can buy a "T-money" card, a prepaid mass transit card. You pay at the ticket boot and it saves you about 100 won (less than U$0.10) per ride, compared to buying individual tix. It's also good for public buses.
Good luck |

When you rent a cell phone from the airport, do you have to return it to the airport? Let's say you want to use the rented cell phone until you get a permenant cell phone in Korea. |

You can also use T-money cards in taxis in Seoul. |

Never EVER load more than 10k at a time on your T-money though... I've had two cards (one of them a cell-phone charm which was supposed to be better at not breaking down) crap out on me in the last 6 months... |

You can pick up cheap 30,000 won phones in youngsan. If you are here for a month or so that could be an option |
